George Bernard Shaw once wrote; "There are two tragedies in life: one is to lose your heart's desire, the other is to gain it." As far as I’m concerned, Shaw was a punk! 'Cause you know what? Tragedies happen. What're you gonna do, give up? Quit? No. I realize now that when your heart breaks, you gotta fight like hell to make sure you’re still alive. 'Cause you are, and that pain you feel: it's life. The confusion and fear.. that's there to remind you that somewhere out there is something better. And that something is worth fighting for.

Surprise..

Kaley was nervous. She felt like she was doing something wrong. Christopher didn’t know she was in his apartment, which was the point, but she thought that this could go either way.

She had asked his brother, Max, to help her with a surprise. Kaley had a bought a small Christmas tree and a few ornaments with lights, along with other Christmas decorations. Max helped her put up the tree and decorate the apartment; mostly because he wanted to bring his girlfriend around in a few days and he thought that it would be more magical if it was christmasy.

After 2 hours of decorating and goofing around, Kaley kicked him out so she could start on the second part of her surprise. “Thank God, Tommy decided to help me after all and take Chris out all day to give me time to do this” she thought to herself. She started on making dinner as soon as Max cleared the door. The menu was simple but full. Pasta and a homemade pizza, kinda like an Italian menu and for desert chocolate cake with ice cream. Red wine even though it was kind of risky for her if she had too much, but vodka or tequila would simply not do. She had an apron on and all, she looked like a chef or a real good housewife. She laughed at the latter thinking of Christopher’s face if he saw her. He would definitely make fun of her.

The time was already 8:30 when she finished cooking and setting the table in his room. His kitchen was small and not romantic, so Kaley moved the portable dinner table to his room, set down a nice red tablecloth and the black plates she got for him. They were her favorite. Two candlesticks were already in the middle of the table, waiting for the white candles. She placed the food in the oven to keep it warm and texted Tommy to ask where they were. When he replied she sighed knowing that she still had time to take a quick shower, put her make up on and wear her new lingerie. Black of course.

After an hour everything was dark except the two white candles in the bedroom. Kaley was sitting on the bed biting her nails nervously, when she heard the key turn on the door and she froze. “This is it” she though.
Christopher walked in and opened his bedroom door. He was holding a bouquet of white and roses but he felt kind of an idiot because Tommy insisted that he should buy them before going home. When the door opened though, he was stunned. Kaley was sitting on his bed with an expectant look on her face. He watched her stand up slowly, never taking her eyes off of his. She smiled. He smiled back.

“Hi” he breathed.

“Hey” she chuckled.

“What is this? When did this happen?” he asked in a dry voice.

Kaley froze. “Are you mad?” her face fell. And before he could answer she continued in one breath. “I wanted to surprise you and Max helped me and Tommy as well. I knew it was a risk coming in and doing all this when we are the way we are. But I thought it would be nice to have a dinner to just spent some time together and talk or not talk.” She gasped for air.

“Hey, hey, hey. Relax. Yeah, it’s kind of unexpected. Was Max here with you or were you alone?”

“He helped with the tree and the decorations but then I told him to go and I cooked” she replied shyly. She knew he didn’t like it. “I have to go” she thought, “I can’t handle what’s to come. He’ll get mad and things will get worse. Damn it. Why did I have to do something so stupid?”

She started picked up her stuff and he grabbed her hands.

“What are you doing?” he asked while placing the flowers on the table.

“I should go. This was stupid. I should have told or don’t do it at all. Stupid, stupid, stupid. What was I thinking.” She said while shaking.

Christopher pulled her in his arms and spoke softly. "This is amazing. It’s exactly what I needed. But just because you know I like my privacy and don’t let people in, don’t you think for a second that this was stupid and a mistake. I know things are weird between us, but this is good. This is perfect. Thank you.”

Kaley pulled back to look in to his eyes. “So, you’re not mad for breaking in to your apartment and, well doing all of these?” she asked with a grin.

“No, I am not mad you goof. You know me better than anyone and still I get to surprise you. That’s good I think. Only love for you” he replied smiling wide. “Now I get why Tommy insisted on the flowers. So let me do this again. These are for you, only love” he said in a husky voice. Christopher handed her the flowers and she placed a soft kiss on his cheek.

Kaley stepped back and walked over to the kitchen to put the bouquet on some water and get the food. When she returned carrying two plates of steamy spaghetti, she heard the sweet voice of Frank Sinatra. Christopher took the plates and placed them on the table that now stood in the corner. He took Kaley’s hand in his and staring in the eye he said, “Dance with me.”
